My Rhapsody: Alice Fisher shares her story of finding strength, community and confidence through Rhapsody CrossFit in Charleston.

What is your story?

I am originally from Pennsylvania. My husband Jeffery (Jeff) and I lived in North Carolina before coming to Charleston and we’ve been here for three years now.

My life revolves around Jeff and my two dogs, Rucca and Hannah. (Hannah was in a car accident five years ago and has to use a doggie cart to get around.)

The best thing to ever happen to me was meeting Jeff. The worst day of my life was the day Jeff had his stroke, leaving him completely paralyzed on the right side of his body and with severe Aphasia.

The best day has been every day since then. It is my mission to help him recover and be the best version of himself. He is my hero, and I will continue to search out new ways to help in his recovery.

I am his Shebeast!

“I have never felt this way before…and it has carried over to every part of my life, both professionally and personally.”

What brought you to Rhapsody CrossFit?

Jeff is a patient of Maysa Hannawi, Founder of In The Box PT and Rhapsody Brain Trust member. She had him do his physical therapy and workouts at Rhapsody CrossFit.

I was curious and went along with him one Saturday to observe. I knew next to nothing about CrossFit  and thought it was just a bunch of muscle-bound guys pushing tires and carrying sandbags around in a parking lot.

What I saw totally blew my preconceived notions out of the water! I was intrigued by how everything was scaled to each individual regardless of their ability. That was when I met Rhapsody Head Coach Alan Shaw. We chatted for a while and he charmed me into a coaching session. I did the one-hour session and was hooked.

What have you gotten out of your experience with Rhapsody?

My experience at Rhapsody has been nothing short of extraordinary. There are so many things I have gotten out of my time there.

Of course, I am much stronger physically and my endurance has increased by a lot. But I would have to say that the best thing I have gotten out of my experience at Rhapsody is that my confidence has grown by leaps and bounds.

If you would have told me on that very first day when I talked to Alan that I would be able to do some of the things I can do now, I would have told you that you were crazy!

It is strange to say, but the confidence is something I can actually feel within myself and am cognizant of it. I have never felt this way before…and it has carried over to every part of my life, both professionally and personally.

What has being a part of the Rhapsody CrossFit community meant to you?

What can I even begin to say about the community at Rhapsody? I believe that people are attracted to like-minded people…this can be with positive or negative attitudes.

I have a “can do” positive attitude and have found that same thing in the members at Rhapsody.

When I walk into Rhapsody, I take a deep breath and relax. I know that I am surrounded by like-minded people in a truly a special place. Everyone is encouraging, helpful, kind and friendly.

The coaches are amazing – always helpful, positive and yet pushing you to do your best. The personal touch is always there, which makes it all the more special.

I have made more friends since joining Rhapsody in April than I did in the entire three years we have lived here.

Alice, you are an inspiration to us all as both an athlete and a human being! Thank you for raising the bar among our Rhapsody community. To connect with Shebeasts like Alice and get in on this CrossFit family, sign up for your first class today!
