KATE HENDLEY

NUTRITIONIST | RHAPSODY NUTRITION

Born and raised in the Lowcountry, Kate glided onto the ice as a competitive figure skater for nearly a decade before trading her skates for sneakers as a track and cross country athlete.

Immersed in solo sports, Kate developed a consuming drive for success and self-induced demand for perfection that she would carry with her to college. While at East Carolina in Charlotte, NC, her mom was diagnosed with cancer – already chasing impossible standards, she careened into hyperdrive on training, studying and performing.

Rhapsody Fitness

Kate Hendley at Rhapsody Fitness in Charleston, SC.

It all came to a head in 2012 with an eating disorder that landed her in the hospital. A harrowing reset, Kate reevaluated who she wanted to become and made the choice to start healing herself mind, body and soul.

Coming back to her Charleston roots, Kate graduated from the College of Charleston with a Communications Degree and tried her hand at hospitality with Wild Dunes Resort. Innately curious by nature and motivated for more, Kate went on a professional walkabout researching and interviewing anyone willing to talk with her.

Taking a step in a better direction, she transitioned into the health and fitness space joining the HYLO Mount Pleasant team in 2019. As HYLO’s Director of Experience, Kate found her calling to serve others by helping them find balance and curate healthy lifestyles.

Ready to make and ride her own waves, Kate enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s (IIN) Accelerated Program and graduated in April 2021. It was also around this time that her explorations brought her to Rhapsody Fitness – entirely new to CrossFit, after a couple drop-ins she was hooked on the positive vibes and people.

Personal in her approach, Kate is vehemently against one-size-fits-all anything and reducing humans to numbers or food groups. When it comes to fueling your fire through Rhapsody Nutrition, she focuses on empowering you to know what your body needs, understanding the why behind your cravings and encouraging you to pursue goals on and off your plate.

All about meeting you where you are, Kate prides herself on keeping it real – creating and holding a judgment-free space for you to develop a positive relationship with food and focus on balanced longevity.

When Kate isn’t getting acquainted with the barbell, you may find her busting a move, wandering the great outdoors, exploring new sights or whipping up something wondrous with oatmeal (food truck plans pending).
