#5 Bowen’s Island
Proudly serving up good times and great food since 1946, this 13-acre island is famous for locally harvested oysters, fried shrimp, hush puppies, Frogmore stew and, of course, cold beers. For a casual night out with a hint of adventure, come for the eats and stay for the incredible views of Lowcountry rivers, marshes and wildlife.
#4 The Royal Tern
Nestled deep within the draping oaks of Johns Island and well worth the drive from downtown, this modern coastal pearl dazzles guests with an array of fresh seafood and steaks paired with delicious cocktails and sips. Headed by Chef Pell, signature dishes include the seafood tower, raw bar, carpaccios and tartars.
#3 Jackrabbit Filly
This neighborhood joint tucked away in bustling Park Circle is known for heritage driven new Chinese with an American twist. Give your belly a warm Karaage hug or add some spice to your life with the stir fry, 5-spice fries and nightly specials. Served family-style for sharing, no one will stop you if you go for the whole shebang – we usually do.
#2 Chez Nous
Make your date night dreams come true with this cozy, convivial downtown restaurant featuring delectable food and wine from Southern France, Northern Italy and Northern Spain. All part of the fun, with a menu that is changed and shared daily on Instagram, choose from two appetizers, two entrees and two desserts. Spoiler alert, every choice is the right one.
#1 Chubby Fish
Drum roll, please…dreamed and executed by Chef James London, this dock-to-table concept holds a special place in our hearts and stomachs. A hidden gem within downtown’s historic Elliotborough neighborhood, this pint-sized eatery features fresh catches straight from the Atlantic Ocean and local rivers inventively prepared with seasonal ingredients and culinary genius. Get there early for first-come-first-serve or book the whole space for a private event.
