MY RHAPSODY: From NYC to CHS, Susan Pittard shares her story on how becoming a mom motivated her to strive as an athlete and finding her ‘Cheers’ with Rhapsody CrossFit in Charleston.

What is your story?

A little bit about me, I moved to Charleston with my husband and son, July 2017 from Brooklyn, NY to open Heart of Gold Gallery, specializing in music/portrait/lifestyle photography. I, myself am a freelance photographer with a passion for portraiture.

I started crossfitting over 5 years ago at CrossFit South Brooklyn. My CrossFit gym and community became an essential part of my daily life. In 2015 I had a transformation, mentally and physically after having my son. I was driven and completely determined to be a strong mama.

Strength can be defined many ways, for me it has helped me be more appreciative of my body and what I am capable of doing inside and out of the gym.

What brought you to Rhapsody CrossFit?

Rhapsody CrossFit came into my life right on cue! It was PERFECT timing as I was searching for a new CrossFit gym in Charleston that would be more in line with my personal goals. Rhapsody Head Coach Alan Shaw met me for a coffee to tell me about the gym and the programming. I mean, what a great first impression!

What have you gotten out of your experience with Rhapsody CrossFit?

Rhapsody built an amazing, inclusive CrossFit community with quality coaching & smart programming from the get go. I’ve met some awesome people that I just LOVE working out with.

Rhapsody’s attention to a skill and breaking down programming into manageable movements is life changing (Hello, muscle ups!).

I’ve re-learned how to run, I’ve learned to climb a rope more efficiently.  I could go on and on… Can you tell I like this place?!

What has being a part of the Rhapsody CrossFit community meant to you?

Rhapsody feels like a bit of a homecoming for me and something I was sorely missing for the year before they arrived. Being a part of the Rhapsody CrossFit community is like sunshine for me. I wear a lot of “hats” in my day to day right now and the gym is that one hour in my day when I really get to focus on myself and tune out everything else. It’s my “Cheers”.
