Are you wanting to get back into the gym? But for whatever reason, it hasn’t happened. What’s holding you back from making your comeback?
You might tell yourself that it isn’t really the right time. Or a good time. You’ll go back once things calm down. Or ramp back up. It’ll be better to start after you lose ten pounds. Twenty pounds. You need to start running first. Then you’ll be ready. You’ll start tomorrow. No, on Monday. Next month. Next year? You just need to wait for the right time. The perfect time.
The truth is, there will never be a perfect time to make your big comeback. And if it feels like a big comeback, then now is the time to focus on starting small – with just one step.
Yep, that first step is probably going to be the hardest one. But here are some ways to help you get on the path of progress and turn “someday” into “today.”
1. Just start.
How long have you been thinking about getting back to the gym? Now is the time to take action. Just start. Doing something will always be better than nothing. And if you continue to plan for the perfect day, that day may never come. Take action now; just start.
2. Gather support.
If you’re worried about what that first workout will be like (or feel like), that’s okay! Honestly, you won’t know until you show up. But in the meantime, gather up some support. Remember that you’re not in this alone. Workout with coaches who you trust and let them be your guide. And lean on the community that surrounds you. These are your people, and they get what you’re going through.
3. Set realistic expectations.
Once you initiate your comeback, check-in with your expectations. It will be tempting to jump right in and pick up wherever you left off. But don’t let your ego dictate how you get started. And avoid comparing yourself to others. Focus on your own personal fitness journey and be realistic about where you currently stand. There will always be time for future progress.
It’s time to take that first step. Now is your time. We’re ready for you.
