My Rhapsody: Hannah Breal shares her story of finding her passion for physical therapy through CrossFit and second family through Rhapsody.
What is your story?
Ok, long story short here – I was born and raised in Louisiana, moved to Tennessee when I was 10. I went to undergrad at USC, my parents moved to Mississippi, and then I moved to Charleston for Physical Therapy school. Please don’t ask me where I’m from because I still don’t know how to answer that question…
I played sports in high school but ultimately had to quit due to health issues, and started working out on my own in the gym. That’s when I fell in love with exercise.
Fast forward past many Pinterest “killer ab and booty workouts” and 4-mile runs (I used to like running – shocking, I know) until my freshman year roommate finally convinced me to come try CrossFit. I thought she was crazy. Once I joined my first box in Columbia, I was hooked and never looked back (and stopped running so much).
My passion for CrossFit fueled my desire to become a Physical Therapist.
What brought you to Rhapsody CrossFit?
I had been doing CrossFit for about 3 years when I heard that “two guys from Broadway” were coming to Charleston to open up a gym. I was extremely skeptical, but of course I had to check it out, and I dragged my roommate along with me.
We both joined on the first day. We were obsessed immediately. If you’ve been to Rhapsody CrossFit, you get it. I could tell this gym was going to make a huge impact on our city and there was no way I wasn’t going to be a part of it.
What have you gotten out of your experience with Rhapsody CrossFit?
Honestly, Rhapsody has spoiled me! No other gym can compare in my brain. Because of the individualized coaching and mentoring, kickass programming, and inspiring community, I have grown exponentially as an athlete over the past year.
Rhapsody has set the standard for CrossFit and offers so much more value than just a gym membership. This gym has made me stronger mentally and physically, happier and more confident, and has only increased my passion for exercise and movement.
What has being a part of the Rhapsody CrossFit community meant to you?
Rhapsody, to me, is family. It’s laughter, sweat and (happy) tears. It’s going all out in a workout and immediately getting up to cheer for your neighbor. It’s so much more than PR’ing a lift or learning a new skill – it’s a lifestyle, and it’s one of the best decisions anyone could make.
Rhapsody has given me my closest friends who continually lift me up and inspire me to become my best self. This place has pushed me far beyond my comfort zone and has allowed me to reach goals I didn’t even know I could have.
This gym holds such a special place in my heart because it is so much more than a gym. You’ll walk in for a workout, but you’ll stay for the people.
Hannah, you are an amazing athlete and human being! Thank you for raising the bar among our Rhapsody community in Charleston.
